Google Apps Setup

Well, we'll see how this goes!!

There is a question within our company whether we should continue to self-host our email (currently Domino/Notes 6.5) or outsource to Google Apps. We strongly desire the capability of shared calendaring, shared contacts as well as private contacts, and integration with Blackberry phones.

Having a domain already registered with mydomain.com and DNS managed with the same, it was an easy decision to sign-up with Google to try their Google Apps (GA) for our family as a test.

I now have setup email accounts for four of the oldest children. I redirected the mail for myself and Nancy from being forwarded to our ISP account and have it now sent to Google Mail. I setup Nancy's Thunderbird mail client to POP the mail from Google as a safety net. I have added this blog as well as a home page hosted by Google. Finally, I have a start page for each Google account.

This initial post is require to see whether it presents an RSS feed on the GA start page. I am not a person who feels that he has much to say worthy of the effort to type it out. However, anything for the company.

So, should our company remain self-hosted or move to Google Apps? Will Google Apps have any benefit for our family? Time will tell ...
